MORE specialists will accommodate the growing medical needs of the Blue Lake city when the new section of the Mount Gambier Medical Consulting Suites opens later this month.
That is the vision of the consulting suites’ managing director Bruce Keeley who said the new enterprise was a great investment in the Mount Gambier community’s future.
“It is exciting for the community because we have a number of specialists coming who have never worked in Mount Gambier before,” Mr Keeley said.
“This saves the community a lot of unnecessary travel to Adelaide for specialist medical appointments.
The new building, which will comprise 15 new specialised rooms including treatment rooms for some procedures, is purpose-built with some unique design elements.
The internal doors, which are floor to ceiling in height, as well as the outside decor of the building, is something Mr Keeley said is not common for Mount Gambier.
“I do not think there is anything like this in Mount Gambier and the community will most definitely benefit from it.
“It is designed to be a centre of excellence in medicine, unique to the city,” Mr Keeley said.
“It is quite exciting for the community as it will provide more services where there is a real shortage of specialists within Mount Gambier.”
Stating the intention behind the idea was to invest in getting more medical services to the region, Mr Keeley said he wanted to make the project work for the local community.”
Specialist visits will vary with some available monthly, while others will operate weekly or on a frequent basis.
Mr Keeley expressed his thanks to the community’s involvement in the project from Mount Gambier City Council through to the tradesmen who worked on the building.
“We have used over 95pc of local businesses to get the build done,” Mr Keeley said.
“I would like to thank everyone involved in the building process as they have gone the extra mile for us by working weekends and nights to help get the development finished, which is appreciated.”
“I would also like to encourage the local member for parliament and state health minster to get behind the project to get more medical professionals to the region.
“We encourage the community to contact their local member to encourage support for this project.”
