Memorial cost study

IT is now estimated to cost more than $300,000 to refurbish the entrance foyer of the Millicent War Memorial Civic and Arts Centre.

Wattle Range Council staff have prepared a report on the matter which will be considered at this afternoon’s monthly council meeting.

Deputy chief executive Paul Duka said the 2018/19 annual budget had allocated $80,000 towards the refurbishment of the centre’s foyer.

Mr Duka said the project aimed to modernise and improve functionality, safety and aesthetics of the foyer, to a point where the area could be utilised for civic functions and as a formal reception area for functions in the centre.

He said the design specifications have now been qualitatively assessed at $307,000.

“As the works are greater than the allocated budget, a council decision is required to, either progress with the full set of works or alternatively to reduce the scope of works to the budgeted amount,” Mr Duka said.

His report details the suggested works including lighting, flooring, storage areas and the bar.

According to a staff report presented to the April 2017 council meeting, the capital expenditure at the Millicent War Memorial Civic and Arts Centre in the past decade has been over $700,000.

Most of this was associated with the installation of reverse cycle air-conditioning.
