Orientation week held at city university

ON CAMPUS: Ebony Prelc, Anita Diment and Zoe Brooksby enjoy the 2019 welcome to campus party at UniSA.

A NEW year has started at Mount Gambier’s University of South Australia campus with students taking part in orientation this week.

The South East campus – located on the Blue Lake city’s north-western fringe – hosted a welcome party for its student cohort on Tuesday afternoon.

The introduction to campus was well attended by both new and returning students, along with friends and family.

University student clubs held stalls to attract new members while the city’s Rotary members manned a barbecue.

After spending a semester studying teaching at Flinders University in Adelaide, Penola’s Ebony Prelc was glad to start fresh at the Mount Gambier UniSA campus.

“I was pretty homesick after just one semester so it’s great to have tertiary study available in the South East,” she said.

“I’m happy to be able to stay at home with my family and friends while furthering my education and career.

“I think having an education institute in a regional area like the South East is important for retaining youth and building industry in the area.”

Ms Prelc said she enjoyed her time at the welcome party and hoped to attend more events during the year.

“It’s really great to come out here and meet everyone you are at uni with,” she said.

“It’s a nice environment and I would love to get more involved in school activities during the year.”
