Fundraising reaches new heights

SUCCESSFUL TRIP: Raymond Scott Transport representatives Julie Smith and Ray Scott (fourth and third right) present Wanderers Car Run participants Neville Jennings, Craig Barrett, Peter Burchell, Mark Wellington, Steve Letton and Colin Layzell with a $90,000 donation for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

AN IMPRESSIVE $90,000 donation has been presented to the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) Naracoorte support group after yet another successful Wanderers Car Run.

The most recent run, which started in Naracoorte on November 30 last year, took 20 cars to Adelaide, Broken Hill, Cobar, Dubbo, Narrandera, Echuca and Mildura.

Organiser and vehicle run veteran Colin Layzell said it was the most successful run yet and thanked sponsors and the wider community for their support.

“We would not have been able to raise this money without the local businesses and sponsors,” Mr Layzell
said.

“We all had a lot of fun and had many people who backed us the entire way.”

Naracoorte support group president Mark Wellington said the fundraiser was an overall success.

“The trip was incredible overall, yet it was a bit hot because we were in one of the cars without air conditioning,” Mr Wellington said.

“But the best part of it is the money goes to a good cause and Colin and I get to help each other out with the fundraising.”

Mr Wellington has been a part of the Wanderers Car Run since it started fundraising for the RFDS in recent years and said this year’s total was an amazing amount of money.

The car fanatics are developing a reputation for large donations to the RFDS, having raised $150,000 in just two
years.
