THE Mount Gambier Country Garden Club members were given a taste of provincial Italian cooking at the Community Garden in Mount Gambier.

The members gathered at the garden nestled behind the Old Gaol, which is humming with a variety of plants.

Vine ripen tomato plants, eggplants, pumpkins and zucchini plants blanket the garden that is well-composted and watered.

In a special treat for members, garden club member Josie Pasin gave a cooking demonstration in how to prepare two of her family’s favourite dishes.

A CULINARY TREAT: Josie Pasin cooks up a storm at the Community Garden in Mount Gambier.

These scrumptious dishes were pepperonata and bruschetta, which both rely on home-grown ripe tomatoes.

As she cooked, the Italian immigrant also reminisced about her early days in Mount Gambier and opening her iconic dress shop.

Committee member Sue McPherson helps organise the Community Garden and her husband was on hand to act as Josie’s sous-chef.

The club meets monthly to look at outstanding gardens across the region.
