Council funds inject colour to town centre

FRESH LOOK: Penola and District Business and Tourism Association members Kerry and Simon Meares and Di Williams welcome the public’s designs for Church Street’s new planter boxes.

THE beautification of Penola’s main street will continue with an injection of colour and ambience to the precinct.

Wattle Range Council recently awarded $1800 to the Penola and District Business and Tourism Association (PADBATA) through its community grants program to help boost the Church Street aesthetics.

Additional planter boxes filled with flowering plants and scattered fairy lights in trees are features of the project.

The community group hopes the small improvements help continue to build the community’s sense of pride in the town while adding a point of difference to the streetscape.

“The overall aim of this is continue to present Penola as a great hub for visitors to stop and stay and explore the Limestone Coast from,” association president Dru Reschke said.

“In turn increasing economic activity for the wider community.”

The association committee also welcomes anyone from the community to submit ideas or concepts for planter boxes to padbata@gmail.com by March 5.

After the necessary preparations the PADBATA committee will set a working bee and welcome any helpers.

The Coonawarra Soldiers Memorial Community Hall Committee also received $2000 through the program towards an estimated $185,000 refurbishment of the facility which includes upgrade of toilets, replacement of old bar area, refurbishment of community room and the establishment of an outdoor alfresco area.
