Rotunda club delivers funds

HELPING OUT: Taking part in the funds handover were Rotunda Club’s Phil Walker, Royal Flying Doctor Service’s John Chalmers and John Clarke, Rotunda Club’s Bob Jones and Royal Flying Doctor Service’s Max Blacketer.

THE Millicent fundraising auxiliary of the Royal Flying Doctor Service, as well as a local family, are the latest beneficiaries of a group which meets once per year.

The Rotunda Club has met in the central parklands of Millicent each Christmas Day for several years.

Its male members are sheltered by the landmark 108-year-old structure which gives the group its name.

Rotunda Club members enjoy a beverage and a collection is taken for worthy causes and charities.

Its operation is similar to the time-honoured custom dating back to 1960 outside the former Tantanoola cheese factory each Christmas Day.

Members of the so-called Tantanoola Once-A-Year Club also have a social get-together and the proceeds of a raffle are donated to charity.
