THE future of the Mount Gambier bowling alley is secure following the purchase of the assets by a local entertainment company at auction yesterday.
A bid of $57,500 was enough to secure the stock plant and equipment of the financially embattled Gambier City Bowl.
A spokesperson for the purchaser, Blue Lake Bowling Pty Ltd said he endeavored to have the facility back up and running as soon as possible.
“It will definitely back as a bowling alley, it is too important to the community to lose it,” they said.
“The bowling alley has been there since I was a kid and I have bowled there for years, so I am excited to take it on.”
Landlord spokesperson Bill DeGaris said he was excited Blue Lake Bowling Pty Ltd had shown a keen interest in the assets of the entertainment facility.
“The bid sum of $57,500 covers all the outstanding rent and costs associated with the Distraint,” Mr DeGaris said.
“We hope the purchaser will put the business back together again and establish the venue as a premium leisure venue in Mount Gambier.”
Around 100 people attended the auction held on the first floor of the Odeon Complex at 2pm, which was conducted by Herbert Commercial Real Estate.
All the items were sold as one rather than individually.
It is currently unclear when the site will re-open to the public.
