Veggie growers urged to contest tomato title

SEEING RED: Entries for the popular Penola Coonawarra Tomato Competition are due this week.

BACKYARD veggie growers are being called to action with the entries for the Penola Coonawarra Tomato Competition due this week.

The William Wilson Perpetual Trophy is up for grabs to whoever has the best backyard tomato in the district, with the highly sought after trophy holding cult status.

Certificates and prizes are also awarded for the prettiest, largest and most diseased tomatoes at the March 1 award night.

Pick up an entry form from Coonawarra Community Club, Meek’s Butcher or the Coonawarra Store.

A $20 to entry fee is put towards the Coonawarra Community Club.
