ON the day of love, Limestone Coast residents were invited to the Mount Gambier Library to celebrate Library Lovers’ Day.

A worldwide holiday, literature lovers across the region converged on the community hub to share their similar passion.

Library Lovers’ Day is a chance for local library lovers’ to celebrate everything that libraries offer the community; whether it be a social place to visit, a chance to escape within a great book, children’s rhymes and stories, or hilarious author visits.

Mount Gambier Library manager Georgina Davison said the facility had celebrated the holiday during week with a variation of different events held.

“During this week we have had our ‘blind date’ books, which are wrapped up with a cryptic clue on the front so readers do not know what they’re borrowing until they get home,” she said.

“We selected a host of different titles, authors and genres for the attraction and we hope it helps readers branch out into books they may not have otherwise borrowed.

The app allows community members to search and place holds on physical books, DVDs and CDs, as well as access digital content such as eBooks, digital magazines and online learning from their mobile device.

Customers can also manage their loans and use the app as a virtual library card as the app is capable of displaying a customer’s name and barcode.

“If you’re out of town or at a friend’s place and you see a book or DVD you like you can scan the barcode to see if we have it on offer,” Ms Davison said.

“The you can place it on hold if you like or if we do not have it you can send us a message and suggest we get it in stock.

“It’s a really handy little app and we’re really excited to see our customers using it.”
