Education journey gets underway

READY TO GO: Mary MacKillop Memorial School has welcomed new teacher Kaitlyn Lusty to the school after completing her tertiary education last year.

AS the new school year begins, fresh university graduates have made a start in their careers and stepped into classrooms across the country for the first time as fully-fledged teachers.

After finishing her tertiary education last year and completing her final practical module at Mary MacKillop Memorial School, Kaitlyn Lusty won a position at the school as a Year 4/5 teacher.

Originally from Mount Gambier, Ms Lusty was “over the moon” to secure a job in the Limestone Coast.

“After working here as part of my study last year I knew it was a wonderful school community,” she said.

“I was so lucky to get the job here as it’s exactly the kind of school I was hoping to work at.

“There is a really great feel here and I think everyone here is passionate about nurturing children which was important to me.”

Aiming for a position in the upper primary area, Ms Lusty said she was grateful to be teaching the Year 4/5 class.

“I have a keen interest in teacher the older primary student so the position was perfect for me,” she said.

“I’m really looking forward to the year ahead with the kids and hopefully helping shape them as they progress through learning.”

With the departure of former principal Maureen Hanrahan from the school community, Nicole Coote has taken over the position in the interim until a new principal is appointed.
