THE problems of storm surge at Beachport will be probed in a new government-funded study.

Nick McBride MP said his MacKillop electorate has received $30,000 from the state and federal governments as a part of the Natural Disaster Resilience Program.

“This shows the Marshall Government is committed to funding projects that ensure the state is ready if disaster strikes,” Mr McBride said

“This funding will enable the Limestone Coast Local Government Association to collect data to help councils protect and adapt coastal communities and environments from the likely impacts of sea level rise, storm surge and increased erosion.

“This project will be an important step for councils to assist in planning and preparation for storm surge events on our coastline.”

“This is particularly important in areas such as Kingston, Cape Jaffa, Robe and Beachport.”

Emergency Services minister Corey Wingard said a well-prepared community was resilient which led to better outcomes for everyone should disaster strike.

“This funding encourages shared responsibility when it comes to preparing for and responding to disasters and keeping communities safe,” Mr Wingard said.
