AN assortment of Holden vehicles will be displayed in April when the Holdens of Age Car Club celebrates its milestone of 20 years in operation.
Forming on April 13, 1999, after an initial meeting of interest two weeks prior, Holdens of Age club secretary and publicity officer Lesley Johnston said the fact the club was still going strong was an amazing achievement.
“In a city this big it is fantastic we actually made it to 20 years,” she said.
“Although we’re a ‘one make club’, our members share a strong-bond and enjoy the laid-back approach in which club runs and meetings are conducted.
“We have had a great time and have shared many memories with one another since day one.”
Ms Johnston said anyone with a Holden vehicle built at least 21 years ago or a genuine interest in Holden cars was welcome to join the club.
“The VT Commodore is now eligible for the club which is starting to encourage the younger generation to become involved,” she said.
“All owners are welcome whether their car is restored, original or modified.”
Ms Johnston said the club would celebrate its 20-year milestone with a display of club Holdens at Freemans Landing in the Valley Lake precinct.
“Holden book author Don Loffler will be the club’s guest and will have his new book available for sale at the event,” she said.
“A couple of Mount Gambier cars are featured in his book which is significant.
“The celebrations will end with a dinner at the Silver Birch Motel.”
With over 30 members involved, Ms Johnston said the club brought back old memories for a lot of people.
“Although we have around 35 members when you include their partners and children it can expand out to 60 or more,” she said.
“Our club is something different then just seeing a modern car driving down the street.”
The general public is invited to attend and support its April 13 event, which will be held from 10am to 2.30pm.
The club holds its monthly meetings on the last Wednesday of the month at the South Aussie Hotel from 7.30pm.
