State swim success in championships

REGIONAL RELAY TEAM: Elijah Stratford (Mount Gambier), Harry Schwarz (Bordertown Doplhins), Vaughn Stratford (Mount Gambier) and Nicholas Bignell (Blue Lake Y) combined to win silver in the South East Regional relay.

THE Mount Gambier Swim Club was represented by four members in the recent South Australian Country Swimming Championships held in Port Pirie.

With a high standard of competition, Lucy Edwards, Elijah, Vaughn and Indee Stratford returned home from the four-day meeting with a number of PB’s, finals swims and medals.

Vaughn did well to win gold in both the 100-metre and 50-metre breaststroke events for his age group, as well as two bronze medals in the 50-metre freestyle and backstroke.

He and Elijah joined forces with Blue Lake Y Swim Club’s Nicholas Bignell and Bordertown’s Harry Schwarz to win silver in the regional freestyle relay.

Elijah also won two bronzes in the 200-metre individual medley and 200-metre freestyle.

Edwards and Indee Stratford both smashed time off their personal bests and made finals in some of their events.

Lucy Edwards: 50m freestyle – PB, 100m backstroke – PB, 200m freestyle – PB, 50m Backstroke – PB (reserve finalist), 50m butterfly – PB (reserve Finalist), 50m breaststroke – PB, 100m freestyle – PB, regional freestyle relay, regional medley relay.

Elijah Stratford: 400m freestyle – PB, 50m freestyle – PB – 4th, 200m IM – PB – 3rd, 200m freestyle – PB – 3rd, 50m butterfly – PB – 6th, 50m backstroke – PB (reserve finalist), 100m freestyle – PB, 50m breaststroke – PB – finalist, 100m butterfly – reserve finalist, regional freestyle relay – 2nd.

Vaughn Stratford: 100m breaststroke – PB – 1st, 50m freestyle – PB – 3rd, 200m IM – PB, 50m backstroke – PB – 3rd, 50m breaststroke – PB – 1st, 100m freestyle – PB – 4th.

Indee Stratford: Superfish Program, 50m freestyle – 9th, 50m breaststroke – PB – 4th, 50m backstroke – PB – 6th, 50m butterfly – PB – 4th.
