Field days at top of honours list

THE 40th anniversary of the South East Field Days has been named Naracoorte Lucindale Council’s Australia Day event of the year.

Last year’s field days saw more than 21,000 people flock to Lucindale’s Yakka Park for the two-day event.

The event has developed from humble beginnings when it was first held at the Lucindale Football Oval with just a handful of displays to now cover 20ha and feature more than 600 exhibitors.

Host Lucindale Lions Club will accept the award at the Naracoorte Australia Day celebrations at the town square.

Naracoorte Soroptimists president Norma Davis has won citizen of the year for her extensive community involvement in the Suicide Prevention Network, the Naracoorte Lucindale Community Care Network and Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church.

Lucindale Pastoral, Agricultural and Horticultural Show life member Lynette Loechel was named Lucindale’s citizen of the year for her contribution to the field days, Lucindale Area School and Lucindale Girl Guides.

Fellow Lucindale resident Angelique Dellaney won young citizen of the year for her contributions to the area school’s SRC, as a mental health ambassador and the Lucindale Netball Club.

Appreciation certificates will be awarded to Stephanie Brooker-Jones and David Brooker for their contribution to the wool industry and shearing.
