ROUND three of the Mount Gambier and District Cricket Association Big Bash Twenty20 Cup has finally been completed, with the remaining game between Penola and Mil Lel – which was rescheduled due to rain – abandoned due to the heat yesterday.
The round kicked off with a home win for West Gambier over East Gambier at Malseed Park.
East was asked to bat first and failed to play out the allotted 20 overs to be bowled out for a disappointing 92 runs.
Captain Dion Stratford was the top-scorer with 28 in an innings where only three players reached double figures against a tight West bowling unit led by Sam Willis, who picked up 3/14.
However East fought back into the contest with the ball to have the Roo’s in trouble at 5/34, but it was Willis again who defied the Bulldogs to hit 33 and lead his side to a three-wicket win.
At Blue Lake Sports Park, the home side South Gambier brushed aside Millicent in a fine all-round display.
The Demons batted first and were dismissed for a respectable 136 from just 18 overs with Jacob Parham (32) and Zac Walker (26) the pick of the batters.
South defended its score with ease as Dylan Clough and Bryce Whicker both claimed four victims to wipe Millicent out for just 52 in an embarrassing 12 overs for the away side.
Frew Park was the scene of a crushing display from North Sportsman’s against Glencoe in a game that saw only 18 completed overs.
Glencoe was the first to bat and was rolled for just 50 as Declan Kenny had a field day to claim the figures of 4/11 from his four overs.
It just took four overs for Jake Schutz and Matthew McInerney to eclipse the weak target and ease to a dominant 10-wicket win.
Round two of the competition was also rescheduled, to be played on January 31.
