Buyers eye Community Club property

THERE have been two formal expressions of interest to purchase the closed Millicent and District Community Club building and car park.

Mount Gambier real estate firm Herbert Commercial has marketed the Davenport Street property since November.

Submissions closed at 4pm on Monday and spokesman David Herbert said one of the interested parties was local and the other came from Adelaide.

Mr Herbert said one of the parties had indicated the sum it was willing to pay for the property but this was not public information.

Regarding the sale process, Mr Herbert said he was now waiting for further information and anticipated he would be in a position to make further comment in mid-February.

“There was one formal inspection and a number of other inquiries,” Mr Herbert said.

The Community Club ceased trading in September due to high debt levels and Adelaide insolvency specialist David Kidman was appointed as the administrator by its committee of management.

Wattle Range Council has been a major creditor of the Community Club for over 20 years and has held confidential discussions since its closure.

The South Eastern Times has approached council for comment and chief executive Ben Gower said none would be made.
