WITH summer in full swing and the mercury continuing to rise, Wattle Range residents are heading to the region’s pools to cool off.
Officially reopened to the public in November, the Nangwarry Swimming Pool has already seen over 1900 residents take a dip this summer season.
Open on days forecast over 20 degrees from 1pm to 6pm in the school holidays, the facility is proving popular since its reopening.
Nangwarry mother Michelle Powell said she had brought her children to the pool almost every day during the school holidays.
“We live in town and it’s really convenient to have the pool open again,” she said.
“The kids are here almost every day, they love coming down and it takes the ease off parents trying to cool the kids down when there’s a pool right around the corner.
“I think the whole community is really appreciative that it has reopened and we’re all looking forward for the years to come here.”
The Penola Swimming Pool has also had a recent upgrade and has become a hub for children over the holiday break.
Wattle Range Council environmental services manager Lauren Oxlade said more than 6000 people had attended the two pools this season.
“So far we estimate there have been 1914 patrons at Nangwarry pool and 4590 patrons at Penola pool,” she said.
Millicent will also celebrate 50 years of the Millicent Swimming Lake on January 27 with a family fun day that will include an inflatable obstacle course.
The obstacle course will be in Millicent from January 21 to January 27.
The $10,000 course will be transferred to the Nangwarry pool on February 2 and 3 and the Penola pool on February 9 and 10.
Those wishing to use the obstacle course must pass a swimming test before use.
While there is a lifeguard is on duty at each pool during public opening hours, parents are reminded that children 12 years and under must be supervised by a responsible person 16 years or over.
Any children under 13 years who attend the pools without a responsible person will be asked to leave.
