Former nurses donate to cancer support group

FELLOWSHIP COMES FIRST: Retired and former nurses at Millicent and District Hospital met last month for lunch at the Somerset Hotel.

RETIRED and former nurses of Millicent and District Hospital have chosen a local charity as the beneficiary of their festive donations.

Each year around Christmas, the nurses hold a Christmas luncheon with the most recent venue being the Somerset Hotel.

Spokesperson Marlene Fennell said until recent years past colleagues had arranged a secret exchange of gifts known as Kris Kringle.

“We decided to change this in 2017 and decided to donate money to the Millicent Cancer Support Group,” Ms Fennell said.

“The latest recipient will be the Millicent Combined Churches Christmas Appeal Committee.

“Last year Nanette Jarrad (now deceased) suggested we donate to this charity in memory of our late colleague Gloria Hutchesson.

“She was the co-founder of the Combined Churches Fete to raise money for Christmas hampers for the needy.

“With this latest Christmas, we now will be donating in memory of both Gloria and Nanette who worked with us for many years at the local hospital.”
