Lions Club gives senior residents extra helping hand

THE Red Cross has launched a new home help program in Millicent with the local Lions Club, donating $200 to the initiative.

Red Cross Limestone Coast regional manager David Walshaw said the scope of service delivery was at the lower level of “odd jobs around the house”.

He said tasks would include changing lightbulbs, fixing leaky taps, fixing and adjusting door hinges, fixing sticking doors, re-adhering tiles, re-stringing clothes lines, shifting potted plants and re-screening flyscreen doors and windows.

Mr Walshaw said the program had been successful in Mount Gambier thanks to generous community support.

“To start the program in Millicent, the Millicent Lions Club has generously donated $200 to provide much needed consumables for use in Millicent and the surrounding areas,” Mr Walshaw said.

“The price for clients to use the service is only a small donation, usually $5 and the cost of the replacement bits used, although this can be waived in some circumstances.

“The service is aimed at the aged and frail in our community who want to retain their independence by staying in their home longer and this program can assist in this by keeping home maintenance items in check.
