ALTHOUGH Mount Gambier remains an accommodating city, Kalganyi Holiday Park owners Gavin and Lindy Fraser believe there is potential for the city to develop further.

Mr and Ms Fraser said park numbers were similar to last year with more campers but less people staying in fixed accommodation.

“We currently have 100 in house at the moment each night, slightly varying throughout.

“Our visitors are also from all over and do have some international people as well as our regulars.”

The couple recommend visitors explore “all the sights above and under the ground” within the Mount Gambier region.

“This would be one of our busiest times of the year along with the Generations in Jazz period, long-weekends and the Easter holidays,” Ms Fraser said.

“We have plenty of natural wonders that many people love to visit and explore.

“If you are an outgoing type of person there is lots for you to do.”

While there are plenty of options for young children, Ms Fraser said she was often told there was not much for older children to do in Mount Gambier.

“People say they have to go out of town to actually do anything,” she said.

“There is plenty for the little ones but there is not any go-karting, indoor rock climbing or many other facilities for the teenagers to become involved in.”

Ms Fraser took into consideration everything was not always going to suit everyone.

“For example, down at the Valley Lake most of the equipment is suited for younger kids, but there is nothing for the teenagers to do,” she said.

“All the feedback we receive is regarding whether we have heard of anything that is coming to Mount Gambier for the 10 to 11 age bracket and upwards.

“I think a lot of the other parks think the same thing as we do get together and talk about things.”

Ms Fraser said Mount Gambier had plenty to offer for the mature age groups.

“It is perfect for little ones and the older generation and most of the families that do stop in are younger families,” she said.

“We often send them down to visit the Valley Lake, Vansittart Park and those sort of things.

“The majority love it here and we have people extend their time a lot.”
