Man to face court over vet break in

A DOG has foiled an attempted break-in at the Millicent Veterinary Clinic after a burglar smashed a window and entered the building last month.

The Mount Gambier Road business was broken into overnight between December 16 and 17 with no items stolen.

As a result of evidence gathered from the scene by Limestone Coast police, a 31-year-old male was arrested late last week and was charged with serious criminal trespass and property damage.

Millicent Veterinary Clinic owner Dr Sarah McGrath said she was disappointed about the attempted break-in, however praised the work and support received from the Millicent Police Station.

“Yes we had another break-in,” she said.

“We had a couple last year when there was the spate of break-ins across town.

“The offender damaged a window and tried to climb in, but they were disturbed by one of our dog patients, so they ran off – whoever it was did not do a very good job.

“It is really disappointing and pretty sad that someone feels the need to do something like that.

“We really appreciate the local support of the police, they have done a great job and they handled the situation very quickly.”

The defendant was bailed to appear before the Millicent Magistrates Court on February 13.
