Teenagers make most of central celebration

FOR ALL AGES: Jacob James-Rigney, Rebekah Duivenvoorde, Taylor Freeman, Annastasia Crowe and James Holmes enjoyed the Vanisttart Park New Year’s Eve celebrations on Monday Night and said it appealed to not just families with young children, but also youths.

TEENAGERS of Mount Gambier have spoken out to let the community know the Vanisttart Park New Year’s Eve celebrations are for them as well.

Held on Monday night, young resident James Holmes said the event offered options for everyone.

“I have been here once or twice with my friends,” he said.

“It is a place with great atmosphere to hang out with my mates.

“We all could not get to Beachport or Robe tonight so we decided to come here.”

Although a family-oriented event throughout the earlier hours of the evening, Mount Gambier Community Events committee member Maxine Tuffnell believes the various live performances and activities are for all ages.

“After the first lot of fireworks at 9.15pm we see the families leave and a younger crowd move in,” she said.

“I think they enjoy the live music performances.”

James and his friends hope the committee can recruit new members to sustain the event into future years.

A meeting will be held in February at the Mount Gambier Community RSL for those interested in joining the committee and organising the event to see in 2020.
