Millicent businesses open doors to other traders

BUSINESS AT SUNSET: Millicent store operators and employees Yogi and Kimberly McMillan from Kimberly McMillan Design and Drafting, Malseeds Real Estate’s Aimee Granziera and Kirby Vassallo, Alternate Life’s Marg Chapple, Millicent Post Office postal manager Jo Leyden and staff Simone Westerman and Grace Keatley and MacFord’s Julie and Angus MacDonald recently met for the “Business at Sunset” hosted by the Millicent Business Community Association (MBCA).

MILLICENT store operators and employees have collaborated after hours throughout the year to improve business confidence in the local community.

The Millicent Business Community Association recently hosted its final “Business at Sunset” meeting for the year at the Millicent Post Office.

The event was attended by around 10 association members and provided insight into the operations of the town’s post office.

The post office team includes postal manager Jo Leyden and staff members Simone Westerman and Grace Keatley, discussed how the postal rate in Millicent exceeded other towns in the Limestone Coast, as well as the role of postage changing with a greater emphasis on parcels.

Association members noted the teamwork of the Millicent staff where team members are expected to know each other’s jobs, which sometimes includes mail deliveries.

The daily duties at the business start each day at 6am with mail sorting and finishs 12 hours later.

There are also extra duties including marketing and developing partnerships with local businesses, organisations and the community.

Last month’s session followed those held at AC Care, 3MP, In-Store, the Millicent Caravan Park and the Shearer’s Cook Cafe.

Business at Sunset is open to MBCA members and runs for around 90 minutes at the end of a weeknight with refreshments provided.

It has assisted in improved collaboration between business operators and has resulted in a number of ideas with improved business confidence within our business community.

Association members are welcome to host a Business at Sunset at a week-night of their choosing.

Those who have an Australian Business Number can join the MBCA by emailing Margaret Chapple at Millicentbca@gmail.com
