Pedestrian struck in four-car crash

CRASH AFTERMATH: One of the four vehicles involved in yesterday’s collisions crashed into the eastern wall of the Millicent police station.

A YOUNG female pedestrian was struck by one of the four vehicles involved in a multiple collision in George Street in Millicent just after 12.30pm yesterday.

Sergeant Derek Long, acting officer-in-charge of Millicent police, said the girl sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Sgt Long said other people travelling in the vehicles also received minor injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.

He said two north-bound vehicles had collided and made contact with two stationary vehicles.

Further police investigations into the circumstances of the collisions are being made.

One of the vehicles crashed into the eastern wall of the Millicent police station.

The vehicle also smashed over the sole Telstra payphone located in the Millicent central business district.

George Street forms part of National Highway One and it was closed for a few hours, with traffic diverted along Glen Street and North Terrace.

The closure enabled SA Ambulance Service personnel to treat the patients and for the vehicles and debris to be taken away.

The incident was also attended by Country Fire Service volunteers, tow truck operators and Millicent police.

The collision drew a large number of bystanders to the area as it coincided with the peak lunchtime shopping period.
