Lakeside deli open

BACK TO BUSINESS: Millicent Lakeside Caravan Park owners Jo and Derek Sparks have been busy renovating the swimming lake deli, which ceased trading 18 months ago. The deli will open its doors again to the public this Saturday. Picture: BROOKE LITTLEWOOD

THE Millicent Swimming Lake deli has been given a new lease of life and is set to once again open its doors to the public this weekend.

Formerly known as the iconic Sharky’s Deli, the business ceased trading 18 months ago and was sorely missed by keen lake-goers who enjoyed indulging in hot food after a refreshing swim.

Millicent Lakeside Caravan Park owners Jo and Derek Spark anticipate the deli will be back in business this Saturday from 11am.

The newly-renovated building has been an “on and off” again project for the couple since it closed as they dealt with asbestos issues.

Plumbers and electricians finished the last of the work this week and the Sparks have been busy getting the building ready and in working order.

The deli will be open seven days a week from 11am to 8pm and will be part-time run by former Junction Deli owner Nicole Looby-McRostie and her staff.

Residents can expect all the usual fish and chip shop food, while the Sparks hope to eventually introduce breakfasts, however in the meantime they are “just going to see how it goes”.

The couple has worked at the caravan park for over three years and became owners of the business six months ago.

The takeaway shop closed in July last year after former proprietor Dale O’Reilly’s lease expired.

A kiosk has been a part of the swimming lake complex since its opening in 1969.
