‘Upcycling’ never looked so good

NEW SKILLS: Penola artist Cate Bell will oversee a chalk paint workshop at Di’s Gifts n Flowers on Friday.

A SPECIALIST art workshop has helped Penola residents breathe new life into homewares using chalk paints.

Cate Bell has overseen the upcycling of pots, frames and other decorative pieces as part of the Di’s Gifts n Flowers initiative.

The final art class for 2018 will be held Friday, with the two-hour session – held in the paint room – teaching participants how to prepare for and apply chalk paint.

Class participants can choose to use sandpaper, dark or white wax, layered colours, dry brush, crackle stencil or other techniques to obtain their own look.

Friday’s workshop starts at 5.30pm with the cost covering tuition, paint brushes and apron, while a pot or frame can be provided for an extra cost.

A full day introduction class is scheduled for January 20 from 10am to 4pm.

The class is limited to six, with participants able to take home an upcycled wooden step stool.

Masterclass special technique workshops will be held February 6 and March 9.

Contact Di’s Gifts n Flowers on 8737 2284 to book a place in any of the workshops.
