CLIENTS at Comrec Mount Gambier have access to new iPads courtesy of a WDEA Works donation earlier this month.

The donation was made after a new relationship was forged between the two disability services.

Comrec regional co-ordinator and behavioural specialist Shaya Smith said the iPads would be used by the clients to progress their learning capabilities.

“This allows our clients to learn and grow using different applications and numeracy and literacy skills,” Mr Smith said.

“It also accommodates the ability to integrate with employment opportunities and work with other services.

Carmel Grosvner from WDEA Works said the two groups were looking forward to helping each other.

“It is a very new relationship and we are happy to be able to help Comrec where we can,” she said.

“Initially we were looking to offer opportunities through our foundation, but for various reasons that was not an option.

“Therefore we elected to donate the iPads, which they identified as something that could be utilised by their clients.”

Comrec’s NDIS peer support facilitator Trish Lock hoped the organisations could continue to be recognised throughout the community.

“Because we are classed as rural and remote, we can sometimes be left out of the loop when it comes to funding,” she said.

“Promoting this donation is a great chance to give the two organisations a bit of recognition and bring people with disability to the forefront.”
