Timber stolen in brazen Millicent theft

A STOLEN truck loaded with timber decking ploughed through the fence of a prominent Millicent business in the early hours of yesterday morning in a brazen theft.

Witnesses watched on in shock as thieves loaded $1200 worth of timber decking onto a truck parked inside Mitre 10’s private compound, before driving the vehicle through a fence.

Police responded to reports from the public the Kentish Place premises had been unlawfully entered around 5.10am.

The vehicle was last seen travelling north on Williams Road before it was recovered on Lossie Road with minor damage.

Meanwhile, the timber was located at an address on Burdon Street in Millicent.

Police are reviewing security camera footage and enquiries are continuing with the suspects.

The incident follows another break-in over the weekend which has resulted in police charging two men over the Mount Burr incident.

At around 9.45am on Saturday the occupants of the Thomas Drive home were confronted and assaulted after two men entered their property before fleeing the scene.

The victims, a 37-year-old man and 68-year-old man, were treated at the scene before they were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A 28-year-old man was located and arrested by Millicent police and local detectives.

He was charged with aggravated assault, aggravated assault causing harm and criminal trespass.

A second suspect, also from Mount Burr, was arrested on Sunday.

The 25-year-old was charged with aggravated assault and criminal trespass.

Both men were bailed to appear in the Millicent Magistrates Court on January 23.

Investigations remain ongoing, however police believe this was not a random attack.

Any witnesses into the two incidents should phone Crimestoppers 1800 333 000.
