Courtyard open for use

PLEASANT EXPERIENCE: Pinchunga residents and garden volunteers enjoy morning tea under the new pergola at the Penola and District Medical Support Group’s courtyard.

THE final stage of the Penola and District Medical Support Group’s courtyard project has been completed with the facility now open to the public.

The courtyard, located between Penola and District War Memorial Hospital and the Pinchunga Aged Care facility, has been under construction for the past year and was completed this week thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers.

Group member Janet Brodie said she was incredibly proud of the finished product.

“It’s been an amazing effort by so many community members to get it finished,” she said.

“We have had regular working bees with a great turn out.

“I just cannot thank everyone enough for what they have done.”

The facility now has a concreted area, a garden, a pergola and outdoor setting complete with a new barbecue for residents and families to take advantage of.

A sculpture and water feature have also been ordered and will be placed in the courtyard soon.

Ms Brodie believes the area will be greatly beneficial for residents at Pinchunga and their families in addition to those at the hospital.

“The residents have loved all of the activity going on during the build,” she said.

“I think it’s perfect timing to have everything finished just in time for summer.

“Everyone will be able to enjoy the sunshine with their friends and families while at Pinchunga and the hospital.”

A grand opening event will be hosted early next year after the Christmas season.
