Zombies saddle up

THE walking dead roamed Commercial Street last month during the ninth annual Zombie Walk, raising funds for Mount Gambier’s Riding for the Disabled Association.

Around 60 zombies met at Vansittart Park before the undead horde made its way to the Cave Gardens.

Event organisers Kylie Bamford and Sharmaine Fogarty said while inclement weather had deterred some, a number of would-be participants watched from their cars.

“It was a cold and wet night, but cars were lined up on the main street to watch,” Ms Bamford said.

“We have a lot of fun dressing up and since the event started we have raised funds for a different charity each year.

“This year we raised $1005 for Riding for the Disabled Mount Gambier.”

The not-for-profit organisation provides horse riding as active recreation for disabled children and adults.

Riding for the Disabled secretary Ruth Mott accepted the donation on behalf of the organisation.

“Our running costs are around $15,000 per year and we are run entirely by volunteers,” Ms Mott said.

“We are truly grateful for this donation and the money will contribute towards those ongoing costs, including feeding the horses and vet bills so we can continue to provide riding for clients.”
