National Remembrance Day honour

PROUD: Mount Gambier High School students Luke King and Julia Mitchell attend the National Remembrance Day Service in Canberra.

MOUNT Gambier High School (MGHS) students Julia Mitchell and Luke King represented their school as part of the National Remembrance Day service in Canberra last weekend by leading the student procession, placing poppyies on the Stone of Remembrance.

“It was an honour and a privilege to be part of such a moving and significant event in Australian history,” MGHS humanities and social sciences coordinator Kathryn Sutton said.

“To be sitting on the parade grounds looking towards the Australian War Memorial, listening to heartfelt words and inspirational video footage was a once in a lifetime experience for everyone involved.”

The group of 34 MGHS students was among the 12,000 people gathered at the Australian War Memorial to commemorate 100 years since the end of World War I.
