Nangwarry pool to be reopened

THE Nangwarry Pool will hold a grand opening event today to celebrate the strong community support and significant investment from Wattle Range Council which has revitalised the asset.

Upgrade works to the pool surface and chlorine system have been completed and dedicated volunteers have also made improvements to the site.

“Council listened to the views of the community and their passion for the Nangwarry Pool,” council chief executive Ben Gower said.

“We have invested in the capital upgrades needed at the site, including repair and rendering of the concrete pool edge, repainting both pools, upgrading the chlorine dosing system and chlorine storage.

“Congratulations to the small group of dedicated volunteers who have invested many hours in painting, cleaning and fundraising to improve the overall look of the facility.”

Council closed the facility in 2016 due to low swimmer numbers and safety concerns around the chlorine system.

Further works are also planned to improve the facility, including a new shade structure.

Save the Nangwarry Pool Committee member Florence Thomson said the pool had been well attended since last weekend’s unofficial reopening.

“On our first day we had more than 50 people swimming,” she said.

“We were lucky to have perfect weather, but we’re hoping to keep up the numbers throughout summer.”

Saturday’s event – which starts at 1pm – will include a sausage sizzle cooked using the new barbecue facility.

The pool will open on days forecast 20 degrees or higher and is free to use from 3pm to 6pm Monday to Friday and 1pm to 6pm on weekends and holidays.
