POLICE are investigating a crash involving a car colliding with a stobie pole in Mount Gambier yesterday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the scene on Wehl Street North at around 1pm when a black Holden Commodore crashed into the pole.
The sole occupant of the vehicle, a man aged in his 20s, walked away from the crash with no injures.
Mount Gambier Police Duty Sergeant Andrew Beaufort said police were still investigating the circumstance surrounding the crash.
Witnesses told The Border Watch they had reported the vehicle to police on a number of occasions for “erratic driving”.
However, the alleged driver of the vehicle posted on social media yesterday afternoon that he was “just unlucky”.
“My steering finally gave out on me like my steering arm snapped,” the alleged driver commented.
Metropolitan Fire Service crews were on the scene for around three hours to help remove the car, which was tangled around the pole.
South Australian Power Networks was also called to the scene after 443 customers in the area were left without power following the crash.
Mount Gambier North Primary School was one of the locations left without power.
Staff were expected to remain on scene most of yesterday to replace the stobie pole.
They anticipated power would be restored by around 7.30pm yesterday evening.
