Top 10 achievement recognised at Murray Bridge Goldcup

TOP 10: Millicent’s Rose Slape dressed to impress when she was announced in the Top 10 in South Australia of the Murray Bridge Gold Cup’s Fashions on Field event.

MILLICENT was well-represented in the sport of style when Rose Slape graced the stage at the Murray Bridge Gold Cup’s Fashions on the Field earlier this month.

Ms Slape, along with locals Brianna Scanlon and Kimmi Varcoe, was named in the Top 10 for South Australia in the event, which has become one of the most lucrative trackside competitions on race day.

Rose said she has been competing in fashions on the field for around six years and first became involved after attending a local race day with a friends where she was left in awe by the glamorous competitors in their fabulous outfits and millinery.

“I’m quite crafty so I loved the opportunity to get creative with outfits,” she said.

Since then Ms Slape has been thrilled to take home sashes from race meets around the state including Strathalbyn, Gawler, Morphettville, Penola and Mount Gambier.

She has also competed in the South Australian state final on four occasions and always wears her own millinery, which featured in her Murray Bridge Top 10 outfit, an achievement she described as “fantastic”.

“My outfit for the Murray Bridge Cup consisted of a bold custom made red and pink dress, red brimmed lace hat made by myself, pink tassel earrings and a red, textured clutch,” she said.

“The inspiration for this outfit came from my amazing dressmaker Kathie, she chose the pattern anticipating that I’d love it- and I did.

“Together we picked which panels should be which colour.

“I chose to make a brimmed hat to balance out the fishtail skirt and using lace softened the look for spring.

“I had difficulty finding a piece of lace in the right colour and pattern, resorting to buying a lace dress on sale and cutting up the skirt.

“The races are such a great opportunity to get dressed up, feel fabulous and have fun with friends.”
