Fennell Forestry pulls together for event

HARD WORK PAYS OFF: The Fennell Forestry team has tasted success again, claiming bragging rights in this year’s Truck Pull Challenge. Picture: LAURA THOMAS

THE “home truck” advantage has paid off for Fennell Forestry, which continued its domination of the Truck Pull Challenge, recently winning the sixth annual event.

A record 10 teams took part in the event at the Mount Gambier Saleyards, with two 23-tonne Kenworth B-Doubles pulled head-to-head down a 100m course by the six-person teams.

While bragging rights between the Green Triangle truck, transport and forestry fraternity are now finalised, the real winner was Variety SA with the 2018 event raising $25,000, bringing its total fundraising tally to $115,000 since 2013.

Spectators were also treated to feats of strength by Adelaide-based Commonwealth Games weightlifter Steph Davies and fellow Strength Syndicate member and strongman Rasmus Atler.

Fennell Forestry managing director and event organiser Wendy Fennell said the truck pull brought together timber and transport executives and workers from across Australia and the world in the heart of the Green Triangle forest region.

“Add to this the fact that we are raising money for a very worthy children’s charity and you have got an event which our community is very willing to support – it is a win-win,” she said.

A lengthy list of generous sponsors supported the 2018 event, including major sponsors the Barry Maney Group and Trident Tyre Centre, both of which have been on board since the event’s inception.
