Rev-heads cruise for a cause

TWO regional rev-heads are hoping to flex their muscles on the road during an upcoming car run fundraising event.

Penola resident Jeff Pahl and Mount Gambier’s Raymond Leigh will be among the participants in the Leukaemia Foundation’s Aussie Muscle Car Run.

Teams across Australia will start their seven-day leisure car cruise later this month in Adelaide, travelling through regional South Australia.

Speaking to The Pennant, Jeff and Raymond said they shared a strong passion for muscle cars.

“Holden cars, V8’s, big wheels and loud exhausts have made me who I am today,” Jeff said.

“I began entering in 2014 with my father-in-law Bruce and have since entered again in 2016 with my friend Craig Simmonds and last year with my son Josh.

“The highlight of all trips was travelling with my son who also shares my passion for cars, we were able to bond through our special connection that we will both remember forever,” he said.

Meanwhile, Raymond said he had a passion for old Holdens.

“I still drive my HR ute on a regular basis with a FJ Holden sedan in the shed that matches our 1950’s caravan,” the motor enthusiast said.

“It is a privilege to be involved in such a worthy cause and I look forward to reminiscing old memories in the following weeks.”

The duo will travel in Jeff’s 1974 Holden Monaro GTS running a 308ci engine and turbo 400 transmission.

“I knew the Monaro’s 308 engine needed a freshen up and I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to spend time with my lifelong school friend and showcase what the car has on offer,” Jeff said.

“The Leukaemia Foundation Aussie Muscle Car Run provides participants with the opportunity to enjoy travelling with fellow muscle car lovers in iconic cars through picturesque Australian scenery.

“Our goal for the event is to raise over $10,000, which would be a great achievement for the Limestone Coast.”

All funds raised from the event will support Australian families suffering from blood cancer.

“Knowing that every two hours someone is diagnosed with blood cancer, we are making a difference to these families in need,” Jeff said.

“The patient accommodation village in Adelaide is open to country families which is truly terrific.”
