Business transition for Chinese medicine

END OF AN ERA: Retiring business owners “Nancy” Chen and “Stephen” Mu have handed over the reins to the Chinese Medical Centre to Hong Yu Cao. While they will move on from Mount Gambier, the couple is grateful for the support they have received form the community. Picture: MOLLY TAYLOR

INTERNATIONAL health knowledge will depart Mount Gambier on Tuesday as Chinese Medical Centre owners “Nancy” Chen and “Stephen” Mu move into retirement.

Established in 1995, Chinese Medical Centre has accommodated an ever expanding client base, offering natural therapies such as acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, cupping therapy, massage, dietary modifications and nutritional supplements.

Over 20 years ago, the couple traveled from Melbourne to Adelaide searching for a place to start business.

“From the moment we arrived in Mount Gambier, we knew we had found home and a place to establish the Chinese Medical Centre,” Ms Chen said.

“We love how tidy Mount Gambier is and how friendly and supportive the local residents are.

“We have established trustful connections with local people, businesses and organisations and we are very sad to let it all go.”

With the business continuing to grow, Ms Chen and Mr Mu believe the new ownership will maintain their success.

“We have made long-term relationships with community members and have gained a lot of trust since we first started,” Ms Chen said.

“To begin, many were very doubtful in Chinese medicine and we were asked a lot of questions.

“We now we have a continuous clientele that share passion for our therapy and have successfully expanded from two to five practitioners.”

Ms Chen and Mr Mu have helped thousands of people and thanked the community for its support.
