GRANT District Council will seek government funding to progress stage two of The Waterfront project at Port MacDonnell.
The landmark project is already well under way with the $1.2m stage one of the works nearing completion along the foreshore of the seaside fishing town.
According to council, The Waterfront is expected to revitalise the seaside town and provide a focal point for residents and tourists.
The construction site is currently fenced off from the public in the jetty precinct, which will transform this section of the township into a vibrant community space.
The proposed stage two works will include construction of a new playground, refurbishment of the Standish Street entrance, as well as general landscaping.
According to a report, stage two is expected to cost more than $700,000 and will include a playspace incorporating varied landscape spaces, public art, water play and adventure landscape.
The Standish Street entrance will be revitalised with raised planters, artwork and paved node intersection with shared path.
The redevelopment also includes open recreational lawns, a fitness area, as well as picnic/barbecue space.
Council works manager Adrian Schutz said stage one of the project was on track to be completed and acquitted by December.
With significant paving and concreting works already undertaken, he said work crews started on the construction of the boardwalk this week.
He said the bronze sculpture was yet to installed at the site.
“A lot is happening at the site, it is all coming together,” Mr Schutz said.
“The car park area is also being prepared ready for asphalt.”
