Golf day to raise funds for youth mentoring program

THE Castec Rural Pioneers will swing into action at the Mount Gambier Golf Club tomorrow to raise money for youth mentoring program LifeChanger.

Team registration includes on-course food and drink followed by a two-course dinner and all proceeds raised will be donated to the LifeChanger Mount Gambier program.

Founded last year, LifeChanger has “activated” communities across Australia by delivering mentor training and youth workshops for young people aged between 11 and 15 years.

LifeChanger community lead Nathan Hayes will facilitate the program in Mount Gambier.

“The delivery model includes a combination of face-to-face workshops for kids, mentor workshops and a digital platform that supports the outcomes of each,” Mr Hayes explained.

“As the program progresses, mentors from the local community become involved as youth mentors and facilitators in the program, truly empowering the local community moving forward.

“We will run three intakes of the workshop program here, starting later this year with the first intake.”

A community contribution of $25,000 is required to partially fund the program.

“Currently, ANZ Bank and Pioneers Basketball Club are largely coordinating the fundraising,” Mr Hayes said.

“The major fundraiser is tomorrow’s golf day.”

LifeChanger works with communities to create a network of community leaders to help build a systematic, sustainable cycle of mentorship and generational outcomes.

“From a Pioneers perspective, this is a chance for us to be involved in something bigger than basketball,” Pioneers Basketball Club president Tom Kosch said.

“We are willing to do anything we can to help empower young people in our community and help them become the best versions of themselves.”

LifeChanger aims to reach 1000 youngsters in the Mount Gambier community through its mentorship program.

Golf enthusiasts and novices alike are welcome to join LifeChanger chief executive Scott Watters and LifeChanger ambassadors for a round of golf tomorrow.

Four player teams can register for $660 from 10.30am at the Mount Gambier Golf Club.

The golf day will be followed by a dinner from 5.30pm to 8pm.
