DITCHING their uniforms, Kalangadoo Primary School students decided to instead sport their favourite pyjamas all in the name of a good cause.
As part of their fundraising efforts for Australia’s drought-stricken farmers, the school decided to host a “Pyjamas for the Farmers” day.
Reception to Year 7 teacher Marnie Smith said students had been busy this term learning about the drought and what they could do to show their support for the affected farmers.
“We have created some artwork that shows the similarities and differences between places that are drought stricken like Broken Hill and Kalangadoo, which is very wet at the moment,” she said.
“We have realised just how lucky we are to live somewhere where the average yearly rainfall is around 680mm.”
In recognition of the fundraising event, students were treated by a special guest, an orphaned lamb, who they were given the opportunity to bottle feed.
The school raised over $100, which Ms Smith said was a massive effort for such a small school.
“This money will go directly to the farmers in need,” she said.
“We are urging other South East schools to jump on board our Pyjamas for the Farmers initiative and help raise much-needed money for the drought affected animals and families.”
