Public walks to support homeless

WALK A MILE: Ruby’s Reunification Program’s Alicia Marcus, Dawn Cardona and Sharon Gray are gearing up for the Pride In Your Stride event on Friday, August 10.

RUBY’S Reunification Program is acknowledging National Homelessness Week this week with its Pride In Your Stride event on Friday.

In keeping with this year’s National Homelessness Week theme “Walk a Mile in My Boots”, the public will walk to support those facing homelessness and advocate no one should ever walk alone.

The walk will begin at 7.45am at Vansittart Park and finish at the ac.care Community Centre, where a community breakfast will be hosted for Homelessness Week.

Each night in Australia, one in 200 people are homeless.

This can be due to domestic and family violence, financial difficulties or housing crises.

While the resources for those experiencing homelessness are continuing to grow, they simply cannot meet the demand – resulting in the harsh reality every single night there are members of our community without somewhere safe or warm to sleep.

Ruby’s offers a safe place for young people aged between 12 and 17 who are at risk of homelessness, with the aim of reunification back into a sustainable family environment.

Ruby’s Reunification Program exists under Uniting Communities.

Uniting Communities is passionate and committed to supporting those within the community who need help to overcome adversity and disadvantage.

Contact Ruby’s on 8202 5030 to confirm your attendance for the event.

Attendees are asked to consider bringing along a pair of shoes to the event that can be donated to those in need.
