CAPED CRUSADERS: Mount Gambier Hospital staff Carly Braithwaite, Brooke Dimuccio and general surgeon Matthias Wichmann will be part of the “super hero team” that will hit the dance floor for a charity event.

A SUPER HERO effort is taking flight at Mount Gambier Hospital with staff and volunteers working busily behind the scenes to organise this month’s charity ball.

The major community event follows the dazzling Bollywood Ball last year that kicked off a renewed fundraising campaign and raised money for the redevelopment of the renal dialysis unit.

The Hospital Charity Ball – with a “Super Hero” theme – will be staged at The Barn on Saturday, August 25.

Similar to The Bollywood Ball, staff and frontline emergency services personnel will take to the floor to entertain the crowd with their “out of this world” dancing prowess.

This year the funds raised will go to the proposed improvements to the hospital’s paediatric unit.

The ball is being staged by hospital staff and the health advisory council (HAC).

“The focus this year for the hospital is on the care of our children who need to use our health service,” HAC presiding member Maureen Klintberg said.

“Working with a holistic approach that embraces all family members and taking into account all existing facilities and equipment currently available, the top of the priority list is the development and equipping of a new treatment room specifically for the treatment of sick children.

“We are optimistic the super hero ball will raise an estimated $50,000, which is required to proceed with the establishment of the treatment room.”

The superhero theme reflects not only the focus on young people, but also the “local super heroes” who play an important role in our community.

“Once again there will be a spectacular floor show, this year choreographed by Maria Slape of MJ Dance Studio,” Ms Klintberg said.

Representatives from hospital staff, doctors, police, fire and emergency services are set to dazzle the crowd.

“Following the retirement of Dale Cleves as leader of the Barn Big Band, we have an amazing big band led by Thomas Ghea from the James Morrison Academy playing music all present will want to dance to,” Ms Klintberg added.

“We encourage people if they have not already purchased their tickets to gather friends and family and join our local super heroes for a music and dance spectacular whilst supporting their local hospital.

“I would also take the opportunity to encourage those who are unable to attend to consider making a donation to our appeal.”

All money raised will be held in the Mount Gambier Health Advisory Council Gift Fund Trust for the paediatric service unit.

Tickets and table bookings are available at Mangos Fashion and the hospital’s consulting rooms.

The Bollywood Ball last year raised $50,000 for the hospital’s renal dialysis unit.

Planning is already well under way for the long-awaited redevelopment.
