Police lay charges over skate park crash

SUDDEN STOP: A man has been charged after driving a vehicle onto the Millicent skate park earlier this year.

A SOUTH East motorist has been charged with multiple offences after crashing his early model sedan into the Millicent skate park just after dawn on May 13.

The 39-year-old Millicent man was reported yesterday by police for drink driving after a blood test showed he allegedly had a blood alcohol level of 0.238 at the time of the crash, which is almost five times the legal limit.

The man was also reported for driving whilst under disqualification and the aggravated offence of driving without due care.

He is expected to receive a summons to appear in the Millicent Magistrates Court at a later date.

Officers also issued him with a barring order from all licensed premises in Millicent for the coming 12 months.

The man had sustained a minor head injury after his sedan came to rest in the centre of the Ridge Terrace concrete structure at around 7.30am.

He was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was treated at the scene by SA Ambulance Service officers and transported to Millicent and District Hospital.

He was taken to Mount Gambier Hospital later in the day.

The accident scene was attended by the Millicent Country Fire Service Brigade and its volunteer fire-fighters.

They cleaned up broken glass and fluids which came from the vehicle, which police considered to be a “write off”.
