Airport car park upgrade complete

CAR PARK EXPANSION: Extra car parking spaces have been constructed at the Mount Gambier Airport to improve traffic flow and alleviate congestion.

EXTRA car parking spaces have been constructed at the Mount Gambier Airport to improve traffic flow.

The $94,200 car park construction project was 50/50 co-funded by Grant District Council and the state transport department through the Support Regional Aviation funding program.

An additional 58 car parking spaces for rental cars have been constructed to alleviate congestion, improve traffic flow and increase pedestrian safety in and around the terminal building.

The development brings the total number of car parking spaces for rental cars at the Mount Gambier Airport to 93 and total number of car parking spaces at the airport to 283.

“These extra spaces will help meet the needs of the rental car businesses that operate out of the airport and ensures current parking for passenger vehicles is not compromised,” airport manager Ian Fritsch said.

“The project was ultimately about safety and the extra car park enhances the safety of all visitors.”

The new car parking spaces can service customers to the airport and will complement any future expansions and developments.

The project includes lighting to support usability and safety and contribute to an overall better experience for visitors to the airport.

In 2017/18, the Mount Gambier Airport welcomed 73,949 passengers and recorded positive growth in passenger numbers compared to the 2016/17 financial year.
