Lions initiative supports children

STAMPING OUT DISADVANTAGE: Lioness Sue Parkinson presents Australian Lions Stamp Club secretary Ross Paine with used postage stamps collected by the Mount Gambier clubs.

MOUNT Gambier Lions and Lioness clubs have handed over a large collection of postage stamps donated by the community to support the Australian Lions Children’s Mobility Foundation.

The presentation was made at the Lions Australia Multiple District Convention in Townsville and will help purchase walking frames for children born with cerebral palsy.

Representatives from the city’s clubs attended the recent event, where the achievements of service clubs was celebrated and future direction for funding campaigns and community initiatives was set.

Among other contributions made by the region’s representatives, Lioness Sue Parkinson presented Australian Lions Stamp Club secretary Ross Paine with the used stamps collected by the Mount Gambier clubs over the past 12 months.

“Every stamp we receive is sold and every cent raised is then donated to the Australian Lions Children’s Mobility Foundation to assist purchase walking frames for children born with cerebral palsy,” Mr Paine said.

The stamps will be sorted into lots and sent to Sydney for auctioning.

“Since the project started 14 years ago, we have handed over more than $93,000 for ALCMF and I am delighted we could present a cheque for an outstanding record $25,500 at the Australian convention in Townsville,” Ms Paine said.

“This record can be proudly shared by all the clubs, businesses and individuals participating in this wonderful project, so on behalf of all the kids, thank you.”
