Market sets up shop

CENTRAL HUB MARKET: South East Property Sales and Management owner Fiona Telfer and employee Ellie Leopold are looking forward to a regular Central Hub Market Cooperative in Millicent.

A FRESH, flexible and innovative community market was recently launched in Millicent.

The former Kaos Video building in George Street has been given a new lease of life with the Central Hub Market Cooperative.

With a decline in retail stores in Millicent and few empty buildings to fill in George Street, South East Property Management and Sales seized the opportunity to create the hub and support smaller local industries.

The team wanted to provide the town with a “community market atmosphere” and give local businesses the opportunity to display and sell goods, products and services.

Opening its doors Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 2pm, the market also creates a weekend tourist attraction.

The Central Hub is defined by two sectors, one is an outlet for established businesses and the other is a combined community stall.

There are currently more than 30 businesses involved in the combined stall which sells baked food goods, fruit, vegetables, local produce, candles and a range of other treats that represent local products and produce.

A lot of these suppliers did not stock in Millicent before, but now have the opportunity to showcase their produce across the South East.

Each week the organisers will also look at hosting different community informative activities.

Initially, the hub will be a three-month project with its future depending on support and success.
