THE valuable contributions, hard-work and dedication of the community’s younger members was commended at the 2018 Wattle Range youth recognition awards.
Millicent’s Sally Sapiatzer, Madi Turner, Nadine McRobert, Karla Lambert and Blane Combarngo were among the winners at the annual award presentation, which honours the individual and community orientated accomplishments of Wattle Range residents.
Also recognised for her achievements was Phoebe Tregenza from Penola.
Held at the Millicent Community Club this month, the presentation night was attended by around 70 people, including the Millicent Lions Club, which hosted the event.
Wattle Range Council’s development services director Steve Chapple said the outstanding contributions young individuals had made were applauded by those who gathered for the presentation.
“Their quiet achievements in both the local and wider community are enormous and often not recognised, but on this night they were celebrated,” he said.
“Council recognises the important and valuable contributions our youth make to our community.”
This year there were five award categories for youth (12-25 years), which represented a unique aspect of the Wattle Range community.
Categories included community involvement, employment achievement whilst learning, learning success-continual improvement, helping out family and friends and overcoming challenging life situations.
All nominees received a certificate and each of the award winners received a glass plaque and $200 prize money.
“Council would like to again thank the generous sponsors of the awards, nominees and their supporters in assisting council to recognise the many talents, contributions and achievements of the youth of our region, we look forward to your continuing support,” Mr Chapple said.
