COMPTON Primary School students are spreading kindness throughout the community as part of a major project this year.
Drawing inspiration from the book “How Full is Your Bucket?” the Year 2/3 class is learning what is means to be kind and how their words and actions can make a difference to those around them.
Taking part in various activities throughout the first term, the students have set themselves goals on spreading kindness and “filling their bucket” instead of “tipping it”.
“Kindness to me means seeing people laughing and having fun,” Year 3 student Jolie said.
“We can help to spread this kindness by being caring and helping others.
“In class we each have a bucket and when we do something kind our teacher fills it up.”
Gaining an understanding of how being kind leads to happiness, Year 3 student Lauren said while there are some bullies in the world we can all make a difference.
“We can pass on the kindness by being kind to others and helping them so they are not sad,” she said.
“If someone does something kind to you, you can do something for them too.”
The class recently showcased what they have learnt through song and dance in a whole school assembly.
Creating tie dye tops especially for the performance, the students showed others how they too can be kind.
“The students have really embraced the kindness project and have loved every moment,” teacher Maria DeDonatis said.
“They can really relate to the book and are using all of the kind words learnt over the term.
“It is great to see them so involved and eager to spread kindness.”
