Cars on show

UNIQUE: Zephyr Zodiac Club of Australia member Garry Telford with his classic MK III Zephyr 1962-’66 vehicle, encourages the community to view the array of Zephyr vehicles in the city over the weekend.

MOUNT Gambier car enthusiasts are encouraged to be on the lookout for some impressive vehicles travelling through the city this weekend.

Around 40 cars are expected to hit Mount Gambier today travelling from across Australia.

Stylish cars from the Zephyr Zodiac Club of Australia will be assembled in the city this weekend as members explore the region and showcase their unique vehicles.

“It is the first time in 20 years we have held the car meet in Mount Gambier, so it is very exciting,” Zephyr Zodiac Club of Australia member Garry Telford said.

The cars will travel to Portland on Saturday and then over to Naracoorte on Sunday to explore the scenic caves.

“The event is just a casual car meet where the community is encouraged to come and see the cars out and about in the town,” Mr Telford said.

The MK I model of the vehicle was released in 1950 and was produced until 1956, with the MK II model produced from 1956 to 1962 and the MK III model spanning from 1962 to 1966.

“The cars will be of high interest for the community due to their rarity,” Mr Telford said.

“They were built 20 years ahead of their time, equipped with four speed boxes and a twin exhaust.”

The convoy will leave the city around 9.30am on Saturday and Sunday.
